Waxing After Care

1.  Avoid sun exposure

Waxed skin can be more susceptible to sunburn for the first few days after your visit.  If you’re planning a trip to the tanning bed or to the pool or beach, wait for about 48 hours before tanning or spending time in the sun.  Protect your skin with appropriate sun care products to prevent sunburn.

2.  Avoid heavy lotions , body butter, and oils

Keep your skin clean and dry after it has been waxed and avoid applying heavy oily moisturizers or body butter products for the first few days.

3.  Avoid heat and steam

If you’ve received a fairly major waxing service such as a complete back wax or perhaps a leg, Bikini, or Brazilian wax, we recommend avoiding activities that can overheat your skin.  This would include steaming hot showers, saunas, and hot tubs (as well as other activities such as intense workouts at the gym).    Heat can cause freshly waxed skin to become irritated and it can also cause pores to open.  After waxing, we want skin pores to close, not open.  Open pores are more vulnerable to irritation and bacteria.

4. Wear loose breathable clothing

Loose-fitting, cotton clothes are the perfect attire for your waxing visit, particularly if you are receiving an arm, leg, back, Bikini or Brazilian wax.    Materials  such as spandex, nylon, and other synthetic fabric can prevent the circulation of air, and tight fitting clothing may result in skin irritation and ingrown hairs.  So, opt for comfortable cotton over tight fitting spandex or jeans for the first 24 hours following your wax.

5.  Exfoliate

Gently exfoliating your skin is a great way to prevent ingrown hairs and also remove dead, dry skin.  Don’t begin exfoliating immediately, though.  Your skin may be a bit sensitive after your visit, so wait 48 hours before exfoliating for the first time.  Then try to exfoliate 2 to 3 times a week with a very gentle scrub when showering.   Gentle is the key word here.  Do not use heavy abrasive products (AHAs, scrubs, etc) and loofas for at least 4 days after waxing as they might further irritate your skin.

**Depending on your individual rate of hair growth, we recommend returning to our salon for follow up waxing every three to four weeks.   For best results, do not shave in between your hair removal appointments.  You will get much more effective results and softer, smoother skin at your next visit if you resist the urge to shave.
